Medical devices are designed and manufactured to provide the best possible patient safety and therefore fulfill the medical devices law. Unfortunately, not all devices we want to use at or near the patient comply with these safety regulations.

Using the Video outputs of medical devices such as endoscopy camera systems, ultrasound devices and X-ray c-arms with non medical approved devices for documentation like a computer, a VCR, a DVD recorder, printers etc. will have the effect, that all the devices connected (“the system”) will lose the medical approval.

As not medical approved devices are failing in providing the required isolation from the main power supply, they, if connected to a medical device, may leak the current from a defective power supply and seriously endanger the life and the health of the patient. Directives and standards dictate that such video signals must be separated in a way that there are no conducting connections between the input and output sides.

Using the ISOMED II video isolation amplifier in-between the safe medical device and the not medical approved device, gives you the safety and therefore the flexibility you need. This safety precaution guarantees that the health of your patients will not be put at risk, even if a peripheral device should fail (1st failure) and result in a potential voltage of up to 4,000 volts between the inputs and outputs of the isolation amplifier."
